FC APC Fiber Optic Attenuator Overview

The FC APC Fiber Optic Attenuator is a fixed male-to-female passive optical component designed to reduce signal power in single mode fiber links.

It installs directly between an FC/APC equipment port and an FC/APC fiber connector, providing a simple inline solution for reducing excessive received power without changing the existing fiber connection. It is suitable for receiver protection, optical link balancing, network commissioning, laboratory testing, and optical instrument calibration.

Multiple fixed attenuation values are available, allowing technicians to select the required optical power reduction according to the measured receive level and the recommended input range of the connected equipment. Unlike an adjustable attenuator, each unit provides one predetermined attenuation value.

The 0dB version does not intentionally reduce optical power and may be used for reference connections, interface matching, or special test applications. Higher values are used when stronger signal reduction is required.

Before selecting an attenuation value, measure the current received power with an optical power meter and compare it with the receiver’s specified operating range. The selected attenuator should bring the received optical power into a safe and stable range.
