The MPO to FC APC Cable is a 16-fiber OS2 single mode breakout assembly designed to convert one high-density MPO/MTP connection into sixteen individual FC/APC simplex fiber connections.
One end uses a 16-fiber MPO/MTP connector, while the breakout side provides sixteen numbered FC/APC connectors. This allows multiple single mode fiber channels to be carried through one compact MPO backbone and then distributed to individual FC/APC interfaces at optical distribution frames, test equipment, telecom systems or other fiber devices.
FC/APC connectors use an angled physical contact end face to reduce optical back reflection. Their threaded coupling mechanism also provides a mechanically secure connection, making them especially useful in reflection-sensitive optical systems, laboratory equipment, telecom infrastructure and applications where stable connector engagement is important.
The 16-fiber breakout design reduces the amount of individual backbone cabling required and helps improve cable organization in high-density optical distribution systems.
The MPO/MTP side can be configured as male or female and with APC or UPC polishing according to the mating interface. Type A, Type B and Type C mapping options are available.
Because MPO gender, polish type and fiber mapping directly affect compatibility, the required configuration should be confirmed before ordering.

Why Use FC/APC Connectors?
FC/APC connectors combine low optical back reflection with a threaded mechanical coupling system.
The APC-polished fiber end face helps reduce reflected optical power compared with a standard UPC interface, while the threaded FC connector provides a secure connection that is resistant to accidental movement.
These characteristics make FC/APC suitable for applications such as optical test instruments, telecom equipment, CATV systems, laboratory measurement systems and other single mode optical links where reflection control and connection stability are important.
FC/APC should always be connected to another compatible APC interface.
Do not directly mate FC/APC with FC/UPC connectors.
Why Use a 16 Fiber MPO Breakout Cable?
A 16-fiber MPO breakout cable allows sixteen individual optical fibers to be carried through one compact MPO/MTP backbone connection.
Instead of routing sixteen separate long fiber patch cords through a rack, cabinet or cable tray, the MPO backbone can carry all sixteen fibers to the required distribution point and then separate them into individual FC/APC interfaces.
This provides several practical advantages:
- Reduced backbone cable congestion
- Cleaner optical distribution frames
- Faster multi-fiber installation
- Easier cable identification
- Improved fiber organization
- Higher fiber density
- Simplified maintenance and replacement
This design is especially useful when multiple FC/APC ports must be connected to one high-density MPO fiber infrastructure.
MPO Gender and Polish Selection
The MPO/MTP connector must match the mating interface used by the connected equipment or patch panel.
Available configurations include:
MPO/MTP Female APC
MPO/MTP Female UPC
MPO/MTP Male APC
MPO/MTP Male UPC
Male MPO/MTP connectors include guide pins, while female connectors do not.
The mating connection normally requires one pinned connector and one unpinned connector.
The polish type must also match the mating interface.
MPO/APC should mate with MPO/APC.
MPO/UPC should mate with MPO/UPC.
Do not directly connect APC and UPC MPO interfaces.
Fiber Mapping and MPO Type
Type A, Type B and Type C configurations are available.
For an MPO-to-FC simplex breakout cable, the exact channel mapping between the MPO fiber positions and FC1–FC16 connectors is important.
Customers integrating the cable into an existing MPO backbone should confirm the required fiber map before ordering.
If the mapping is unknown, provide the existing cabling diagram, MPO interface specification or equipment connection information before production.
OS2 Single Mode Fiber
This breakout cable uses OS2 single mode fiber for single mode optical communication and distribution systems.
OS2 fiber is suitable for long-distance fiber infrastructure when used with compatible optical equipment.
The passive cable itself does not define a fixed Ethernet or PON data rate.
Actual transmission distance and supported data rate depend on the optical transceivers, wavelength, optical power budget and complete link architecture.
Factory Optical Testing
Each cable assembly is tested for optical performance before shipment.
Testing is performed at 1310nm and 1550nm to verify insertion loss and connector performance.
Published optical limits include:
MPO/MTP Insertion Loss: Maximum ≤0.70dB
FC Connector Insertion Loss: Maximum ≤0.30dB
FC/APC Return Loss: ≥60dB
For project orders requiring individual test reports, serial identification or specific acceptance criteria, confirm the documentation requirements before production.
How to Choose the Correct Cable
Before placing an order, confirm the following parameters:
Fiber Count: 16 Fibers
Fiber Type: OS2 Single Mode
Breakout Connector: 16 × FC/APC
MPO Gender: Male or Female
MPO Polish: APC or UPC
Fiber Mapping: Type A, Type B or Type C
Cable Length: 1m, 3m, 5m, 10m, 15m or 20m
The MPO gender, polishing method and channel mapping should match the existing equipment or fiber infrastructure.
